THE FIELD GUIDES

Strength training fundamentals

Understand repetitions, sets and gradual progression before adding complexity.

Start with a repeatable week

Choose a number of sessions you can protect in your calendar. A routine with fewer dependable sessions gives you more usable feedback than an ambitious split you frequently miss. Our two-day template is one example, with room to adapt the exercise selection.

Give each set a purpose

A repetition is one complete movement; a set is a group of repetitions. Record the exercise, load, completed repetitions and a useful note about control. These details make the next session a comparison you can interpret.

Progress one variable at a time

Repeating a load with better control or adding a repetition can be progress. When you change load, exercise, tempo and range at once, it becomes difficult to know what changed. Use a progression rule that respects the equipment increments and your current ability.
